Maintain Your Smile For Life

Retainers at Premier Orthodontics protect your results after braces or Invisalign and prevent teeth from shifting back out of place. Our doctors create custom retainers designed to stabilize your bite and preserve your alignment.

Long-Term Smile Protection

Wearing a retainer is the only reliable way to maintain your smile after braces or Invisalign treatment. Without consistent retention, teeth naturally shift over time — even after excellent orthodontic results.

At Premier Orthodontics, Dr. Ryan Lubinsky, Dr. Troy Christensen, and Dr. Andrew Triggs offer Essix, Hawley, in-house, fixed, and Phase 1 retainers to keep your newly aligned smile stable for the long term.

Vivera Retainers

Vivera retainers are clear, custom-made trays that resemble aligners. They fit snugly over your teeth to maintain alignment while remaining nearly invisible.

How Vivera Retainers Work

Using precise digital scans, we create a fully customized retainer that covers your teeth and holds them in position. Because Vivera retainers are removable and discreet, they fit seamlessly into your daily routine while protecting your results.

Hawley Retainers

Hawley retainers are a traditional and highly durable retention option. They’ve been used for decades to successfully maintain orthodontic results.

How Hawley Retainers Work

Made from molded acrylic and a thin metal wire, Hawley retainers are shaped to your exact smile. They are adjustable, which allows Dr. Lubinsky, Dr. Romans, Dr. Christensen, or Dr. Triggs to fine-tune the fit if minor shifting occurs — often without requiring a full replacement.

Fixed Retainers

In certain cases, a fixed retainer may be recommended after treatment. This thin wire is bonded to the back of your lower front teeth to provide continuous retention.

How Fixed Retainers Work

Fixed retainers are typically used for the lower front teeth, where relapse is more common. If needed, they are often paired with a removable Essix or Hawley retainer for the upper arch to ensure full-smile stability.

Phase 1 Retainers

Younger patients who complete Phase I treatment may require specialized retention to maintain early corrections.

How Phase 1 Retainers Work

In some cases, a Twin Block or similar removable appliance is used to hold the jaw in its corrected position while permanent teeth continue to erupt. Once growth and alignment goals are met, Phase II treatment begins to finalize the smile.

How To Care For Your Retainer

Your smile journey doesn’t end when your braces or Invisalign treatment is complete. Retainers at Premier Orthodontics protect your alignment, and proper care and wear ensure your results last.

Follow these guidelines to keep your smile straight and healthy for years to come:

  • Wear your retainers as instructed. Unless we tell you otherwise, wear them whenever you’re home and remove them only to eat, brush, swim, or play contact sports.
  • Bring your retainer to follow-up appointments so we can confirm it still fits correctly.
  • Always store your retainer in its case when not in use to prevent damage or loss.
  • Contact us immediately if your retainer feels tight, cracked, or broken.
  • Call right away if you lose your retainer. Teeth can begin shifting quickly without consistent wear.
  • Clean your retainer daily using a toothbrush, toothpaste, and warm — not hot — water to remove plaque and odor.
  • Practice speaking, reading, or singing aloud while wearing your retainer to help your mouth adjust more quickly.
  • Keep retainers away from heat, including hot water, hot cars, washing machines, dryers, and pockets, to prevent warping.

Treat your retainer with care, and it will protect your investment and maintain your smile throughout your retention phase.
